there are things hidden in people.

it’s how they remind you of places
they’ve never been. how an introduction
can conjure a swell of emotion.

and you,
you remind me of home. not my
physical place of residence. not the
house itself and all its accompaniments.

you remind me of a space of peace.
of solace. of freedom, to just be – me.

i’m not sure how you manage
to manifest this recollection,
so surreal -
it’s like curling up into a dream.

truth be told,
i haven’t been anywhere that held
this feeling. this comfort. a calm,
thick with acceptance.

an experience,
words cannot adequately quantify.

and you,
you are now my preferred destination.
where i go, when i need to find safety
and nurturing and unconditional love.

there are things hidden in people.

and in you, i found my sanctuary.
in you, i found my home.
